Brampton Players is a locally based amateur company whose aim is to keep theatre and the performing arts alive in and around Brampton in Cumbria.
Brampton itself is a market town located about 15 miles east of the city of Carlisle, near Hadrian's Wall, and is the hub of a community of villages nearby. Since losing our Playhouse, a converted church in the town which we used as our base for over 70 years, we are trying to develop a programme which will not only see us performing in Brampton, but will also enable us to take performances to halls and other venues around Brampton. We hope to use the opportunities to explore a wider range of drama and performance compared with recent years activities.
If you would like to be involved in this exciting new phase in the Players' development, please contact us, or fill in the form under the Membership option in the menu on the left.
A pantomime, "THE SNOW QUEEN", earlier this year was staged at the Community Centre in Brampton, and was enjoyed by all.
We presented Peter Quilter's play, GLORIOUS!, a comedy about the American diva, Florence Foster Jenkins, in October, 2007, at the West Walls Theatre in Carlisle. This was a great success for us, and all credit is due to the cast and crew.

2007 was again a successful year for Brampton Players, with "Glorious!", and celebratory, revue-type shows all being appreciated.
Our erstwhile base, Brampton Playhouse is now not usable owing to structural problems. We will continue to produce plays and shows in Brampton and its surrounding area, but how we manage our base is under discussion.
We do not restrict our programme to serious plays, or to the works of the major dramatists of the past though we have often staged Shakespeare and his contemporaries. We perform modern works for theatre, as well as revues, variety shows, musicals, operetta, and musical evenings. Many of our members are accomplished musicians in their own right.
Brampton Players also has a rich repository, in its members, of technical theatre skills - ranging from lighting and sound, through stage management and set construction to the making of properties, etc.. We are lucky to have within our ranks several experienced directors.
Our catchment area is, obviously, Brampton and its surroundings, north Cumbria, and Carlisle. But we also attract members and audiences from the Borders of Scotland, the 'Debatable Lands', Northumbria, and the north east.

A request
As you know we have closed the Brampton Playhouse - this necessitates a mass exodus from the premises! As a result we are looking for secure, dry storage space for most of our props, costumes, lighting and stage equipment. Perhaps even an area that could, in addition, accommodate future set painting and building.
Is there any one out there who would be able to donate such a space?
We would be very grateful - finding suitable storage would be a wonderful help and would be the main facilitator in allowing the Brampton Players to continue into the New Year and beyond!
If you think you have anything at all that we could use please do phone me on 016977-2801.
Many Thanks,
Cathy Ritson.
